The cat on the bookcase (poem)

A cat sleeping in comfort

The cat on the bookcase

The cat’s on the bookcase, the second shelf is his,
A place of contentment, asleep and at ease.
His blanket is ancient, but it’s the one he loves best,
It must always be there when he goes for his rest.
To not be disturbed, until it is time for his feed,
Although he may welcome a stroke, when he’s in need.

Please pass by him quietly, let him sleep in peace,
For if you wake him now, he will expect a feast,
To be presented before him, only the best will do!
But it’s all worthwhile when he gives his love to you.

Friends within Strangers (poem)

In a troubled world, we can still make friends

Friends within Strangers

We live in a world that is full of friends,
There are many that we have yet to meet.
Our journey through life has many bends,
And around some we will find one to greet.

A stranger can hide a new friend within,
With a chance to learn about who they are.
From that, your journey as friends can begin,
And, with them, you could travel far.

Every dawn brings to us new light,
To help guide our way into tomorrow,
And a new friend could come into sight,
To bring joy or to ease our sorrow.

Perhaps they need you to help them to walk,
Or maybe they could help your troubled mind.
But if we could just find the time to talk,
Then friends within strangers we could find.

Winter time (poem)

Winter, when nature takes a rest

Winter time

A time of darkness, when nature takes a long rest,
No bees buzzing round, no birds building a nest.
No growth of the trees, a stillness covers the land,
The flowers are sleeping beneath winter’s cold hand.
But although in the winter, the snow it can bring,
After their long winters rest, come the bluebells in spring.

A time of darkness, where there is less we can do,
A chance to slow down and just let winter pass through.
A chance to recover our spirit, and just rest for a while,
A chance to be with our friends, and to share a smile.
And if it’s raining outside when you first take a look,
A chance to put up your feet, and just read a good book.

A New Journey (poem)

Starting a new journey in your life, maybe from a New Years Resolution

A new journey

This new journey is just beginning,
Those first steps taken just yesterday.
Upon this new path you are pinning,
Your hopes for finding a better way.

Yesterday’s dreams you have now outgrown,
Tomorrow’s hopes are not really clear.
And in this moment you feel alone,
As you face your nerves and your fear.

But you feel that this path is true,
That it has a sparkle there to find.
That it is leading you to a view,
That matches the new dream in your mind.

Those first steps were not easy to take,
But your courage has shown you the way,
And from that, a new life you can make,
As those new dreams become real today.

New Year’s Eve (Poem)

Moving into a new year

New Year’s Eve

In an ending there is a beginning,
Though it may not always seem that way.
But the world is forever spinning,
And after New Year’s Eve comes New Year’s Day.

A new year arriving at midnight,
An old year getting ready to depart.
A new beginning coming into sight,
But from the old year it does start.

From this ending you can now begin,
To change the old and find a new.
A resolution to turn round and win,
And a chance for your life to renew.

Christmas meal preparation (Humorous poem)

Time to prepare the Christmas meal

Christmas meal preparation

So there sits all the food, waiting on the table,
Like a mountain I saw on holiday last year.
I have been reading the books, so that I am able,
To climb above it and conquer my inner fear.

The potatoes are now peeled (wow that was a job!)
Time to face the carrots, now which one to begin?
Let’s place the Brussels in the saucepan on the hob,
Before the children go and throw them in the bin.

I will make a meal of this (at least that’s the plan.)
All of my silver platters and bowls have been buffed.
The soup has been opened and emptied from the can,
And the turkey has been told to go and get stuffed.

The pigs are looking chilly, their blankets are lost,
The sauces are lining up neatly in a row.
Finally it’s done, I dread to think of the cost,
But then it’s Christmas day, so let’s put on this show.

Behold the light of the world (poem)

A special child is born

Nativity 004

Behold the light of the world

Behold the light of the world, behold the new born child,
Born as a Saviour for us all, one so meek and mild.
Born long ago in Bethlehem in a stable he did lay,
In a manger for his bed, with the donkey eating hay.

The wise men knew of his coming, with a star to give them light,
The shepherd’s learning of his birth from an angel in the night.
They all came to worship him, this child of humble birth,
The son of God sent to man to walk upon the earth.

He came so he could teach us the wisdom of God above,
To learn to walk in His way, and with us to share God’s love.
To heal us in our troubles, to guide us to heaven’s door,
And whose stories and journeys, we would all come to adore.
